Purpose-built in 2020, Chyulu Wilderness Camp is the first zero-emissions and carbon negative eco-lodge in Kenya.
Fully-powered by solar energy, the camp uses photovoltaic panels for electricity and hot water. The camp recycles all waste and treats grey and black waters with ecological techniques. All kitchens are powered by induction and all Land Rovers are retrofitted with an electric motor. The carbon negative is achieved through an afforestation programme funded by Le Rosey.
The aim of the camp is two-fold: to transform agricultural lands into protected, thriving wetlands and through this, offer a life-changing experience to international students in one of the most beautiful landscapes on Earth. Each one-week long project combines adventure expedition, community volunteering, conservation and mindfulness to offer a hands-on 360° experience of eco-tourism and sustainable development. The camp is equipped to welcome up to 60 students in tents with en-suite, and boasts an authentic African lounge, dining room, library, conference room, outdoor fireplace and communal café.
Community sits at the heart of our camp and service to the local community extends from our general operations to the activities and work carried out on each of our programmes.
Working together with the Maasai Wilderness Conservation Trust and Rosey Adventures, CWC is transforming once decimated agricultural lands into a thriving protected wetland, which will encourage and rebuild a native ecosystem whilst providing the local community with sustainable livelihoods.

The first camp of its kind to be carbon-zero, fuelled by sustainable energy sources, local farming and with excess emissions offset by the REDD+ programme.
But our commitment to sustainability doesn’t stop at our own infrastructure. We employ and educate local farmers on sustainable farming, natural solutions and drip irrigation, giving them the tools and knowledge to sustainably cultivate and produce a reliable and healthy food source, whilst allowing wildlife to return to the area and live in harmony with human presence.
